After months of closure, national charity The Reader are taking the first steps towards re-opening the Mansion House to serve the community at Calderstones once again.
Profits from The Reader’s social enterprises, including The Reader Cafe and Ice Cream Parlour, go directly to support their charitable work here in the City and across the UK so the financial impact of closure has been a huge concern, as it has for so many organisations across the city.
While the usual Shared Reading groups and events at Calderstones aren’t able to resume just yet, the team at The Reader are working hard to plan a range of community activities in the park over the summer, from poetry walks to family experiences to bring the comfort, escapism and joy of reading to people of all ages during this time. As a first step on the path towards this reimagining, The Reader at Calderstones are offering summer eats at The Secret Garden – al fresco dining for families and friends to reconnect in the private gardens of the Mansion House.
The beautiful Secret Garden will be open every Thursday – Sunday from 15 April – 16 May. The carefully crafted menu includes homemade burgers, pizzas, pasta, salads, Scouse and snacks, and they also have a fully licensed bar. Share in the pleasure of relaxed outdoor eating in socially-distanced dining plots with bench-seating and table service. Tables of up to six people can be booked online now, and they’ll have a number of walk-up spaces available too. Full details and booking information can be found here, and we also ask all visitors to read our Secret Garden House Rules ahead of joining us.
