Late night ‘Twilight Thursday’, evening tower openings returned to the Liverpool Cathedral on Thursday 29 March.

Catch this truly special experience of a sunset across the river on our Twilight Thursday evenings, with bell ringing simulation on selected Thursday evenings throughout the season. Enjoy 360˚ views of Liverpool and beyond from 500ft above sea level as the sun goes down and the lights go up.

Closing times change throughout the season due to sunset times so check out our website for the full schedule. On six special evenings during the late night opening season, as well as experiencing magnificent views from the tower, members of the public will be allowed to enter the bell ringing chamber which is rarely open to visitors.

The late night opening season runs from 29 March – 25 October, and the bells will be open to the public on 3 May, 7 June, 5 July, and 6 September. On these special evenings, visitors can meet the bell ringers, enjoy demonstrations and displays and hand bell ringing before entering the bell chamber itself, where they will see at close quarters the heaviest and highest peal of bells in the world.  Visitors can also experience what it’s like to ring the bells by trying out our bells simulator.

The tower will also host an extra late night opening on Friday 18 May to help celebrate Light Night, an evening where cultural attractions across the city remain open after hours for people to enjoy – and the Cathedral will be once again hosting a bumper programme of things to see and do. You can buy tickets in advance online – visit www.cathedralshop.com or from the shop in person when you arrive at the cathedral.
