From delivery service to bricks and mortar – the story of how two best friends built their dream and opened the doors in a pandemic.
Healthy fast food? Surely not. That’s an oxymoron. But we’ve been firm lovers of PICNIC for years now, and we’re believers. Over three years ago friends of nearly a decade Lauren & Sam noticed a huge lack in healthier food that you could get delivered or take away. And if you could only see our Just Eat, Uber Eats and Deliveroo receipts – you’d agree (and probably be horrified).
Like all great ideas – PICNIC is simple, addresses a problem and has amassed a loyal following. Packed with fresh veg, superfoods and all things colourful – they specialise in bowls, burgers and wraps, loaded fries. Choose between quinoa, halloumi, chicken, falafel, jackfruit and more. Picnic label themselves as ‘healthier fast food’, the beautiful in-between where you get the convenience of fast food without the post-bloat or guilt.
You’ll see Lauren & Sam in their flagship PICNIC on Smithdown Road every day, but that’s not to say PICNIC hasn’t got about before. They’ve done stints at Baltic Market, Marine Street Social, Red Door, Bongo’s Bingo and more – before turning the pop-up to permanent. They’re now surrounded by an incredible and ever-growing independent scene in Smithdown that is challenging people’s perception of the area.
PICNIC want to strive to be more than food and become a well-loved community space (once they’re allowed to properly reopen). For now you can grab a bite to eat, get some takeaway coffee and cake and soon you’ll be able to get fresh juice from their juice bar and takeaway cocktails to walk-around one of Liverpool’s lovely parks with.
