Constellations is an independently-minded, multi-purpose events space and late night bar. An intersection of music, art, food and drink.
Established in 2014, Constellations is and always has been a labour of love. This non-conformist, DIY venue has been carved out of two abandoned warehouses on Greenland street. Ever evolving there is always something to see from art exhibitions in the cafe to the unique planting scheme in the hidden garden. Constellations, you could say, is kaleidoscopic; the patterns and elements are constantly changing but whichever way you look at it, the final picture always amazes.
The venue consists of four main areas – the infamous urban garden where many a wild party, BBQ’s and live music have taken place. The cafe bar home to incredible weekend Brunch Club and weekly live music shows on Thursdays with a host of local talent and visiting musicians. The main events space, which hosts pretty much anything you can think of, is a wonderful space where you can find anything from family raves to vintage markets, beer festivals to weddings, club nights to conferences.
Now we can all agree that Constellations is one of the most beautiful and Instagrammable spaces in the city and a lot of that is down to the award-winning garden. Once a recycling yard, now a handcrafted oak bar and outdoor event space hidden away from the busy city centre by its giant gates. It’s beauty in the winter is understated and we think you might need to visit it purely down to the fact they are about to launch a new food offering called MELT. A space dedicated to the obsession of hot cheese, Swiss Raclette, grilled cheese & fondue pots to share. And vegans never fear there’s VEGAN cheese options too.
Constellations is much more than just food and drink, too. The space encompasses that independent, grassroots spirit we’ve tried so hard to bottle the last few years. Within the warehouse there is also a space called Leylines, which is resource space for artist and designer-makers. The studio currently has 15 members and is home to The Papermoon Print Studio, Becka Griffith Illustration and an array of amazing individual painters, makers, printers and creators. You can often find their work on sale at the Capstan’s Bazaar Monthly Makers Market at Baltic Market.
We see it as a Baltic Headquarters as it has somehow reined in everything special about the Baltic Triangle into their space. You know the old saying, “shoot for the moon and if you miss, land amongst the stars”? Well, maybe that is where they got the inspiration for their name. The decor is an illuminati conspiracists dream, it is full of triangles, an ode to the very special area they call home. And it’s not just us that think that. The Sunday Times recently voted The Baltic Triangle the coolest place to live in the UK. Constellations played a very integral role in the recent accolades.
Either in the summer or at night, the space is a sight for sore eyes and the perfect setting to stargaze. With your best friends, your partner, your Nan or your dog – at Constellations there’s something for everyone and long may that continue. We think of Constellations as a sanctuary for all, inclusive and diverse by nature and always open to new ideas
