Pie and cider – the two essentials for a happy life.
You either like pies or you’re wrong. It’s in the Northern DNA to salivate at the sight of flaky and buttery pastry with cascading fillings which is why the news of a festival dedicated to them should make you very happy. The Merchant will be transformed into an emporium of all things pie and cider on August bank holiday weekend. Sweet and savoury, hot and cold, vegan and veggie, gluten and gluten free. There’s something for everyone. To wash it down, there’ll be over 20 variations of cider ranging from the classic staple to the obscure and pretty much everything in between. The free entry and family friendly event will have you full to the brim with Northern goodness.
Pizza by the slice. Dirty burgers. Gin by the goblet. Garden parties. The iconic building, which used to be an old merchant’s house, has been completely transformed into something fresh, new and exciting – it’s like something you’d find in Copenhagen or Berlin. You can’t help but be impressed the first time you set foot in the venue – with its stripped back walls with neon hangings, the rainforest-like plant hangings that adorn the whole of the roof. Are you excited? Are you texting your mates to see who can go? Be honest, are you drooling a little? Don’t worry, we’re all friends here, we’re not here to judge.
