Huge news for the city of Liverpool.
The Commonwealth Games (known as the British Empire Games from 1930–1950, the British Empire and Commonwealth Games from 1954–1966, and British Commonwealth Games from 1970–1974) is an international, multi-sport event involving athletes from the Commonwealth of Nations. The Commonwealth Games were last held in Glasgow in 2014 and the next games, in 2018, will be at the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, while the next games are due to be held in the South African city of Durban in 2022. After that? Who knows, Merseyside? That’s what Mayor Joe Anderson and more are hoping for.

Just an hour ago Mayor Anderson tweeted this and then a sequence of quotes from ambassadors all propelling the idea that Liverpool city region could be the destination for Commonwealth Games in 2026.

Mayor Anderson is hoping to capitalise on the ambition of Liverpool t the moment. Very exciting times! What’s your opinion?
