INDEPENDENT LIVERPOOL BUSINESSES UNITE FOR NEPAL ON THE 25TH OF JUNE 2015.

On April the 25th 2015, an earthquake struck Nepal killing more than 8,800 people, injuring more than 23,000 people and making hundreds of thousands of people homeless. It was the worst natural disaster to strike Nepal since 1934 and has plunged the country into a state of devastation. People all over the world are doing what they can to help the country and Liverpool is doing its fair share too. The collective ‘Liverpool Unites for Nepal’ is a group of academics and staff from Liverpool universities, doctors and nurses from Liverpool hospitals and Liverpool engineers who have all  joined together in solidarity to help the people in Nepal who urgently need clean water sanitation, food shelter and medicines.

Prayer flags

Now it’s time for Independent Liverpool, independent businesses and the people of Liverpool to do their bit. To help the cause we have teamed up with over 20 independent businesses who will act as a charity collection point on Thursday 25th of June. Charity tubs will be in place in participating businesses, so if you go out for a bite to eat, a coffee or a cocktail at one of these businesses then make sure you donate what you can. If you use your Independent Liverpool card you could even donate the discount you would have received to the charity.

The businesses participating so far include: Nolita Cantina, Cuthbert’s Bakehouse, 92 Degrees, Meat Factory, News from Nowhere, Botanical Garden, Raggas, Lucha Libre, Rookwood, East Avenue Bakehouse, Golden Square Coffee, Kasbah, Manzo, Il Forno, Espresso Plus, Delifonseca, Matta’s, Evil Eye, Neighbourhood, Free State Kitchen, Epicured, Siren, 81 Renshaw, The Jacaranda, LEAF, Lunya, The Caledonia, Maray, Slim’s Pork Chop Express and The Baltic Social. More businesses will be added to the list over the coming days, but we will publish a full list of the places where you can donate on Facebook, Twitter and on our website next Wednesday. Posters will also be put in place across the city at these businesses to remind you on the day.

Funds raised will be donated to the Help Nepal Network, a global charity which aims to provide assistance in the fields of health and education in rural Nepal. We will also be donating 10% of our card sales on the day.

We hope you can help.
