Duke Street is getting a new tenant.
Filter + Fox are one of the latest independents to join Liverpool’s quite exciting and ever-growing scene. They’re opening the doors from 8am onwards on 14th March and can promise the public a den of quality coffee & small plates by day, incredible wine, cocktails and cheese by night and vintage sounds throughout. It was a sad day when Duke St Espresso closed, it really was such an incredible space and the coffee was up there with the best in the city. Planning to do their predecessors proud, Filter + Fox will be carrying on the tradition in the form of good coffee. What’s not to love?
We caught up with Chris Edwards and Owain Williams, the duo behind the new venture:
“Filter + Fox is a collaboration between longtime friends, inspired by year’s spent behind bars, hotels, and restaurants of all kinds, that endeavours to provide a small corner of the ropewalks with quality coffee, wine and cocktails, accompanied by simple tasty food.”
“We will be open to service the breakfast and coffee pangs of Duke Street in the morning, offering Bircher muesli, and bacon butties, whilst in the afternoon we will have an ever revolving list of 3 small plates or salads, avocado toast and other sandwiches, whilst in the evening our wine and cocktail list will be accompanied by cheese from everybody’s favourite Woolton based cheese shop.”
“Our aim is to service the immediate community as best we can, and give people who have spent years wandering Seel St and the wider Ropewalks area a new corner to hideout of an evening. Our coffee is sourced from nude coffee in London, the wine from multiple suppliers. We tasted over 150 wines to and whittled then down to 12, all of which is available by the glass. The cocktail programme will be seasonal and like our food and wine will change constantly, with just 6 drinks at a time representing what’s good to drink that week, but of course we’ll make whatever you want! Our beer list will showcase a different brewery every month with Liverpool craft beer curating our first months offering.”
The first 20 people who head down tomorrow and say “Independent Liverpool sent me” get a free coffee! Not bad, eh? Enjoy your morning cup of joe on us and let us know if you have a good time.
Address: 27 Duke Street.
