In late summer 2019, The Reader reopened the doors to the Grade II listed Mansion House in Calderstones Park following a £5M refurbishment project.
Alongside the Storybarn, the Café and the Ice Cream Parlour, the restored Mansion House became The Reader at Calderstones. This is the first community of its kind in the UK and indeed the world – a community built on Shared Reading and The Reader’s Headquarters. Here, the Programmes team bring to life a vibrant and diverse programme of events, all tied together with the golden thread of literature – be it a Shared Reading group for new parents, a gardening group, or an outdoor theatre event.
After opening the doors in 2019, we achieved a lot. Our offer at Calderstones attracted significant numbers of visitors and we had lots of ideas as to what would happen next – so it was heart-breaking to see things stop in March 2020. We do not know what the future holds, but we are determined to make a future for our Calderstones community and we are looking for a new member of the team to work with us as we rebuild a bigger and better programme post-Covid.
Can you help develop an engaged community in our fabulous building? We are searching for an energetic, enthusiastic person with a belief in the power of Shared Reading to bring people together – whether socially distanced or virtual. You’ll have a proven passion for literature which you’ll use to help us continue to bring to life quality programming in light of the new situation. You’ll play a central role in developing & delivering creative ideas for the programme in line with our themes & principles, and you’ll thrive in finding innovative ways to engage diverse communities in the work that we do.
This is an incredibly exciting time to join the team as we find new ways to engage people in Shared Reading. We are ambitious, we like trying new things and we are committed to learning and always improving. If you think this sounds like a place you could contribute and thrive, please apply.
