Gin: because everybody needs a hobby.
Liverpool – a city with a lot of spirit, both figuratively and literally, isn’t a stranger to the sight of gin. In the last couple years the city has become awash with gin related activities and drinks and our wallets and waistlines have paid the price. A delicious and hungover price at that. Gin gardens, gin afternoon teas, gin bars, gin festivals and now, this December, an ‘Underground Gin Society’. Yes, you read that correctly and don’t worry, we’re excited too.
We caught up with Rakesh Daryanani to get the scoop.
TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF
Right then.., well I’m Rakesh and I’ve had the pleasure of being involved in some fantastic sites in this city already. Places such as The Living Room, Cinema Paradiso, and most recently this year the wonderful Brass Monkey on School Lane. And now I get the pleasure of opening Liverpool’s latest addition to the superb gin and cocktail scene with “The Underground Gin Society”.
YOU HAD US AT GIN. WHAT IS IT?
This beautiful basement bar is THE hidden gem of the city. Located opposite San Carlo and two doors away from the new Neighbourhood site, yet modestly and cutely situated underneath a Castle Street bookmakers, it would be excusable if you would have walked right past this site without realising its absolute hidden charm. This place is really for the Castle Street (and Liverpool) crowd. The hard working folk in the offices, the hard working folk in the surrounding bars and eateries, the shoppers of the city. People that earn their coin and deserve a nice drink at the end of their day. Why not enjoy a nice cocktail? or a good G&T made the way you want it? It’s YOUR bar now… It was made for you. So go and enjoy it.
WHAT CAN WE EXPECT?
World gins combined with unbelievable garnish and flavours, and new craft tonics, as well as world craft and contemporary beers, we are looking to have a nice relaxed ‘after work feel’, as well as an upbeat and vibrant vibe. We have a great Soul, Funk, Motown and Disco playlist from our local Liverpool DJ’s in the background… Prepare to party too.
WHEN DO YOU OPEN?
The Underground Gin Society is launching this Friday the 2nd of December at 5pm. It really is a great addition to Liverpool’s independent scene. We hope!
