The World’s First and Oldest Grotto Returns To Liverpool for 139th Year

Formerly based at Lewis’s department store, the world’s first and oldest Christmas Grotto is set to return to Liverpool for its 139^th year, with the help of Liverpool-based company, City Attractions.

From Saturday, 10^th November – Christmas Eve, the city will see the return of the magical Christmas fairyland at its new home in St John’s Market as families will be invited to visit the new and improved grotto and experience the story of Christmas.

What’s more, little ones will also be invited to get into the festive spirit by meeting Santa and having the chance to get a family photograph before heading into the Christmas gift shop where they can take part in Arts and Crafts activities, including writing letters to Santa and Christmas stories. In 2017, City Attractions made their name as the company who saved Liverpool’s Famous Grotto from closure after they turned the space around within three weeks in order to bring the magic of Christmas back to the city.

Owner of Liverpool-based City Attractions, Guy Fennell, commented: “Having the opportunity to visit Santa is often one of the most exciting parts for little ones in the run up to Christmas Day so we’re greatly looking forward to sharing the festive magic with visitors. Following on from the success of Scouse of Horrors, City Attractions are confident that this will be a family attraction that really captures the magic of Christmas in an exciting and interactive manner.”

Neil Ashcroft, Centre Manager, St Johns Shopping Centre, added: “As Liverpool’s Famous Grotto is such a prestigious event that is sewn into the history of the city, we are sure that it will be a fun filled festive experience for the whole family to enjoy.”
