Earlier in January, 92 Degrees celebrated their 5th year of trade. Starting back in 2015 on the corner of Hope Street and Hardman Street with the city’s first (coffee shop) micro-roastery, 92 has grown rapidly into an icon of the coffee scene in the North West.
UK coffee culture is something that just hasn’t stopped growing. The need for multi-purpose spaces that cater for people to meet, relax, work, write, perform, and escape, is paramount. What is difficult, is finding somewhere that stands apart from the convention – something that jumps out and welcomes everyone, breaking the new-found status quo that some coffee shops have slipped into. Well, five years down the line, 92 Degrees is doing just that.
92 Degrees now cover four separate sites including three in Liverpool City Centre and one, their latest venture, up in Southport. The roastery operation has expanded rapidly and, currently based out of The Baltic Roastery on Jamaica Street, they are supplying freshly roasted coffee to other independents all over the city, including Grilla, Utility, and most recently, Maray.
Despite their recent growth, the team’s ethos has remained the same – provide the people and businesses of Liverpool and the North West with exceptional coffee and welcoming spaces that are accessible to all. Above all, they pride themselves in doing this whilst being affordable and maintaining an ethical approach in all parts of their process.
92 Degrees import many of their coffees from sources that support cooperatives and community-orientated projects in coffee growing areas. On top of this, they donate 10% of every sale of bagged retail coffee to Project Waterfall, who supply methods of clean water production and safe sanitation to vulnerable people in coffee-growing communities all over the world. Managing Director, Jack Brewitt, said, ‘92 Degrees really wants to give back to the community that we are in, but also the communities that allow us to run our business. Where that all starts from is where the coffee is grown.’
There are some big things in the pipeline for 92 Degrees, and they certainly haven’t finished growing yet. With a rapidly expanding roastery operation and more shops on the horizon, this is one company you should definitely keep an eye on.
