The world-famous Ship & Mitre is known for a few things – mind-boggling beer choices, generous portions of home-made food, cosy décor, and lively atmosphere.
You can now add annual beer festivals to this list. The last 5 years have seen them put on ever popular beer festivals at the historic venue of Port Sunlight. Originally concentrating on cask ales, this time they’re going straight into the depths of craft keg beers. A 4-day festival is happening 9th-12th August headlining fabulous beer from around the globe, featuring a huge beer wall of painstakingly chosen beers to satisfy any beer lover’s taste buds. From hop heavy IPA’s to dark and rich stouts, plus weird and wonderful oddities such as Rhubarb Sour beer, Neapolitan Ice Cream Beer and even strange stuff called Kvass – it’s all there.
Some favourites include Northern Monk’s Imperial Peanut Butter Jelly (rich, dark and gloriously decadent dark beer with a sweet addition of Peanut Butter and Raspberry Jam flavours), Magic Rock’s Damn, Son (sweet but mainly sour Damson beer, perfect for long summer days) and Alphabet’s Moose Springsteen (a Lactose and Tropical fruit IPA- soft, velvety smooth and fruity).
There’ll be bars direct from UK breweries and beyond, as well as local brewers Liverpool Craft Beer Co. Beavertown’s bar will include fan favourites Neck Oil & Gamma Ray, the hop beast Lupuloid; this year’s release of Bloody ‘Ell Blood Orange IPA and their collaboration with world famous Brasserie De La Senne – Brattish – a Belgian Style IPA.
You’ll find 5 beers from American brewery Flying Dog – Easy IPA and Doggie Style, as well as Snake Dog IPA, Bloodline Blood Orange IPA and the very special Tropical Bitch – a tropical fruit inspired pale. Camden Town’s bar will feature 2 sell-out beers from Easter’s event – Ink Stout (a velvety smooth well balanced dark beer) and Gentleman’s Wit (imagine Earl Grey Tea with vanilla and honey flavours).
Stone Berlin will be showcasing 5 of their beers including Go To IPA, and perfect for the Summer, a traditional German Style Berliner Wiess – White Ghost. Think Honeydew melon, fresh bracing lemons and absolute refreshment. As ever there’ll be something for everyone, with cask ales, wines, spirits and ciders for those who only want to dip their toes into the wonderful world of craft. Street food and a new Ship & Mitre creperie will keep you fed over the weekend.
It’s all happening at Hulme Hall in Port Sunlight from 9th – 12th August. Day, Night and all weekend tickets are available from Eventbrite here and the pub itself – located at 133 Dale Street. If you’d like to get in touch or have any questions drop us an email benrjg@msn.com.
