Liverpool Cathedral has received the prestigious People’s Choice Award after reviews on Tripadvisor placed the Cathedral in the top 10% of attractions worldwide.

The largest cathedral in the UK and fifth largest in the world, Liverpool Cathedral is entirely self-funded through its enterprise activities and fundraising efforts, which in turn help keep the Cathedral free to enter. It does not receive any public or government money. 

It hosts the largest pipe organ in the United Kingdom, with 10,268 pipes. The Vestey Tower standing an impressive 154m above the River Mersey, making Liverpool Cathedral one of the imposing features of the Liverpool skyline. Built by the people for the people to the glory of God, it strives daily to maintain its visitor and missional status in the city and beyond.

The award is based on consistently receiving great visitor feedback on Tripadvisor for a full year of reviews, before any changes caused by the pandemic. Director of Enterprise, Paul Smith believes that such great reviews are due to the commitment the staff and volunteers have to making sure everyone who comes to see the Cathedral enjoys their visit. He said:

It is especially heartening that this global accolade comes from the reviews our visitors post on Tripadvisor and builds upon some of our recent successes: winner of the Liverpool City Region Large Visitor Attraction (2018) and our Tripadvisor Certificate of Excellence for five successive years of excellent reviews, which we achieved in 2019.”
