A week of celebrating what makes and keeps our city unique.

It felt like just another day. The usual trawl through emails and various social media platforms until one message caught our eye. It’s no secret we’re passionate about local business and we’re made up to hear the independents we adore so much are getting their own week in the Liverpool calendar. The spotlight will be on the very best of Liverpool’s independent businesses next month, when Independents’ Week rolls into action from July 3, culminating in an exciting one-day celebration on Bold Street.

Brought together by Liverpool BID Company on behalf of its BID levy payers, Independents’ Week will celebrate the growing independent business community on and around Castle Street, Old Hall Street, the Cavern Quarter, Church Street, Metquarter, and of course, Bold Street, which is now world-renowned for its eclectic independent scene, featuring such favourites as LEAF, Maray and Matta’s.

The campaign will see a week of special offers and events inside various independent businesses across the city centre, including a networking breakfast event on Tuesday, July 4, where independents can mingle and hear the successful stories from other local businesses. The week-long campaign will conclude with Celebrating Bold Street on Sunday, July 9, which will see a street takeover of local businesses including a farmers market, arts and crafts stalls, pop-up kitchen and street entertainment.

Many people will discover what is on offer here – perhaps for the first time – and the hope is that they come back to see us again next time they are in the city centre.”

It is these businesses on Bold Street, Church Street, Castle Street, Metquarter and the Cavern Quarter, that really make Liverpool unique, and Independents’ Week is about celebrating that, and creating an event that will spur on their future success.

“Independents’ Week is also about strengthening the relationships within the local independent business community – giving them a platform to share their entrepreneurial spirit and encourage them to work together in the future to continue their prosperity.”

·       A great opportunity to hear the story of some successful independent businesses, chance to network, and enjoy free breakfast

Celebrating Bold Street, Sunday,  July 9, Bold Street, 10am-6pm

·       Farmers market and arts and crafts stalls – home-grown treats and handmade keepsakes from local traders for visitors to take home and enjoy

·       Pop-up kitchen – Join your favourite Bold Street chefs while they share the secrets of their signature dishes during the day

·       Street theatre, Tai Chi demonstrations, giant games, face-painting, circus skill workshops and much more
