Say hello to Birdies – Liverpool’s new hole in one.
If you’re yet to hear about Ghetto Golf, where on Earth have you been? It’s the new urban 18-hole wonderland in the iconic Cains Brewery even your Nan has heard about. For those that don’t know, Cains is a brewery in Liverpool, founded in 1858 by Robert Cain. Whilst the taps have been dry for some time, the imagination of the building hadn’t and after many years, the iconic and beautiful hop headquarters of Liverpool is in the process of becoming a brewery village with the likes of Ghetto Golf (and soon to be us).
The holes themselves are a museum of sorts that will take you to different decades, eras and worlds. We especially approve of the Pacman room where each hole in one comes with a massive serving of nostalgia. After creating Ghetto Golf, which was so theatrical, they wanted to turn the large eyesore of ugly concrete space outside into something more natural and organic. Not content with just having one of the best and most alternative experiences in town, the two best friends behind it endeavour to bring another experience to the city. This time it’s an open and outdoor cocktail bar and BBQ – no-one’s complaining about that combination.
Their weird and wonderful relationship with scrap yards has led to 90% of the materials used to create it having been handpicked and up-cycled. From back bars made from old Victorian window frames to their retractable roof canopy made from a factory winch, it’s immensely impressive what the guys have done and mirrors the transformation of Cains and the surroundings. The theme is very green and tropical – expect bird cages, converted containers, trees, flowers and of course, and most importantly, lots of cocktails. Cocktails so pretty that you won’t know whether to drink or get your picture taken with them. The BBQ will come from wizards of all things grilled ‘Apocalypse Cow” who will be serving up delicious morsels of meat all day and night.
Birdies opens this Friday (26th May) at 12pm and will be open 7 nights a week and you can turn up any time and join them. Expect live music, DJ’s and steel drum vocalists. Like the Facebook page here.
