The owners of Filter + Fox on Duke Street, Liverpool, are soon opening the doors to Belzan, Smithdown Road.
A neo-bistro and bar, Belzan will be serving seasonal food, natural and organic wines and innovative cocktails will be opening their doors on December 1st. While showcasing the best of the season’s produce as authentically as possible, the menus take inspiration from all avenues of the team’s culinary adventure. Sam Grainger, a renowned Liverpool chef will be heading up the kitchen, cooking mindful, honest dishes that will demonstrate that quality does not have to come at a premium.
Barbecue savoy, szechuan, soy
Chris adds, “People and produce are at the heart of everything we do. We have an unwavering commitment to buying the best that the seasons and our suppliers have to offer.” The move to Smithdown Road felt natural for the company. Owain comments, “Smithdown is a perfect setting for what we do, as it is a diverse and community-led area undergoing an incredible resurgence. Many of us either have family in the area or live here ourselves.”
Quail, toast sauce, horseradish
The restaurant was partly funded by locals and friends who pledged over £20,000 to a Kickstarter campaign over the summer, in return for ‘rewards’, including t-shirts, dinners and events in Belzan. Chris comments, “without this generosity, Belzan would not be here today and we’d like to thank each and every person who backed us on Kickstarter.”
Lillet spiced pear, tonka bean rice pudding, pecan
Open from breakfast until midnight, Belzan offers a brunch and dinner service, with coffee and bar snacks. The menu will also feature “staff dinner” created for the team to eat together each day; it will be a daily changing dish available for guests to order too.
Pickled octopus, ink, lemon verbena, fermented soy beans
Belzan is now taking bookings here, treat yourself.
