East Avenue Bakehouse on Bold Street relaunches as “The Little Shoe on Bold Street” and announces the opening of a second restaurant, “The Little Shoe at St George’s Hall” in Liverpool’s Victorian masterpiece – not only a new name but now in two locations.

Five years after bringing fresh, seasonal, British, produce, on site baked bread and still following slow food principles, the independent East Avenue Bakehouse, at 112 Bold Street, embarks on the next stage of its development with a new brasserie style menu, and opening evenings.

We caught up with them:

What’s your plan for the Little Shoe on Bold Street?

Head Chef and co-owner, Paul Durand, who brings a wealth of experience from some fantastic restaurants including Moor Hall, said “the relaunch has given us the inspiration to launch an improved menu at The Little Shoe on Bold Street.  And we are delighted to announce that in addition to our daytime opening, we will now also open on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings. We will continue to offer a varied seasonal menu with produce sourced locally and of course, our fresh baked artisan bread and cakes.

What can we expect to see from The Little Shoe at SGH?

After a major facelift to what was the basement Heritage Café, we welcome the opportunity to bring our seasonal, fresh, British food to the many visitors to the Hall in a beautifully refurbished restaurant in its stunning brick vaulted arches.  Come and relax with a coffee and cake in one of our comfortable armchairs or enjoy a meal with a glass of wine in one of the finest buildings in Liverpool. We have designed the place with a nod to its Victorian heritage. We jumped at the chance to bring a local independent business into a major attraction of the City. You’ll be pleased to know that this new site will bring the return of our amazing afternoon teas.

Where does the name The Little Shoe come from?

The piece of bread that you use to wipe up the sauce from your plate is known as a “scarpetta” in Italy. In English this means little shoe. Many customers have used our delicious bread to mop up the last bit of gravy on their plate, hence The Little Shoe”. We’ve worked with local company Smiling Wolf on bringing a new brand and feel to the company.
