You had us at gin…
It’s not news that Liverpool is gin crazy. It has found its way into cakes, cookies and the mouths of half the city. We just need to find a way to get it to come out of our taps and we’ll have achieved our dreams. Speaking of gin, this brings us quite nicely onto 60 Hope Street. The elegant and contemporary restaurant putting traditional twists on the best of British. It is one of the best known for the city’s most ambitious restaurants and occupies an imposing and beautiful Georgian Grade ll Listed building with arguably one of the prettiest facades in the city. Follow the spiraling stairs downstairs and a whole other world reveals itself. A secret lounge to unwind, sit by the fire and get involved in one of their infamous gin tastings.
A frequent question at past 60 Hope Street gin tastings is how do you create a gin in the first place? Gary Manning co-owner of the 60 Hope Street group decided to ask John O’Dowd, founder of Liverpool Gin, the question and after a conversation over some gin (of course), the pair formulated the idea of a gin blending event. There always seems to be a correlation between drinking and good ideas. That’s our excuse and we’re sticking to it.
We caught up with John O’Dowd:
“In my experience a good time frame is twelve months so that you can develop the gin you really want…you develop that is another story and we are keeping this the under wraps until the evening event on Friday, April 29. It’ll be a way of letting gin lovers experience some of the process that professional distillers utilise as they work towards the finished liquid.”
Gin, fizz and jazz? We’ll see you there. Tickets are priced at £49 and available via 0151 707 6060. The event is on Friday 29th April.
