The doors to The Reader Storybarn in Liverpool’s Calderstones Park might still be closed, but the team behind the award-winning imaginative play space are inviting children and their families to join them for some exciting storytelling adventures this October.
Launching today, Eerie Ears, is a spook-tacular immersive audio adventure that tells the story of Geoffrey, a friendly ghost who is transported by a magical book from the Storybarn directly into homes across the city and beyond. Geoffrey needs families to help him get back to the Storybarn; it’s going to take a sprinkling of magic, lashings of imagination and a handful of bits and bobs found at home.
The 30-minute interactive experience, suitable for little ghouls aged 4+, is available to stream from The Reader’s website from today, Wednesday 7 October until Saturday 7 November 7 2020. Families can enjoy the adventure as many times as they’d like for a one-off price of only £6.99.
Kara Orford, The Reader’s Head of Children and Young People Projects said: “Reading for pleasure and imaginative play are vitally important tools for supporting children and families. Recent research has shown that during the coronavirus pandemic 3 in 5 children said reading made them feel better, while 31.6% said reading helped them when they feel sad about not seeing friends and family.
“While we’ve been disappointed not to be able to read with families in person again this Halloween, we’re excited to be able to share our Eerie Ears interactive adventure, and we hope that our loyal Storybarn fans will help Geoffrey the Storybarn Ghost get back home!”
In addition to Eerie Ears, the Storybarn team will also be offering socially-distant outdoor activities for families this half-term. Join the Storyhunters every day from Thursday 29 October to Sunday 1 November for Creepy Caldies Welly Walks exploring the spookier side of Calderstones Park. Sessions are limited capacity in line with the rule of six and suitable for children ages 4+ and their families. Tickets are available to purchase on The Reader website, parties of up to three people £7.50 and up to five people £15.
