Africa Oyé, the UK’s largest free celebration of African music and culture takes place annually in Liverpool.
On June 22nd and 23rd prepare yourself for a weekend of jerk chicken, live music and lots of colour. Sounds amazing, doesn’t it? Come rain or shine thousands and thousands of people will come together for a weekend of pure joy. Africa Oyé has received national acclaim and is highly regarded as one of the best free music festivals in the UK. Beginning in 1992 as a series of small gigs in the city centre, the event has gone from strength to strength, moving to its present Sefton Park home in 2002 to cope with demand. Inspired by the negative connotations associated with Africa, this event aims to highlight the culture, heritage, music and of course, the food.
