Give peas a chance.
This whole keeping up with Liverpool thing at the moment is proving rather hard as the city has exploded with venues lately. One of them being Our Kitchen, a beautiful little boutique coffee space cum restaurant at the forefront of the healthy revolution. Never as a nation have we ever watched what we eat with such eagle-like eyes and this has grown into a revolution in veggie and vegan eateries that aren’t as damaging on the waistline. Our Kitchen is the brainchild of founder, entrepreneur and former CBBC presenter Tara Maguire. The space is kaleidoscopic in that the platters are constantly emerging but whatever way you look at it, it’s beautiful. From the early birds getting a good start to the day to the late-night passers-by drinking on a school night, you could come along at any point in the day and be pleased.
Whilst the menu depicts a wonderful array of interesting cleansing juices, small plates and eagerly anticipated Buddha bowls; Our Kitchen aren’t your typical veggie restaurant. Despite any preconceived ideas you once had, this isn’t a place where a pretentious few sit on a chair made of lentils discussing the latest Netflix documentaries. It’s a brightly lit, Scandic-cool space to try some unique food. It doesn’t need to shout from the rooftops that it’s meatless because a couple of small plates in and you’ll forget yourself. Chef Sean Paul has done an incredible job. They also have a whole host of vegan wines for anyone wanting a quick bite to turn into anything but.
Here’s just 12 plates of food you need to try but truth be told we’ll be back to eat the whole menu:
Scotch Eggs
Not your usual scotch egg, either. So crispy on the outside and so soft and runny in the middle. What more could you want?
Kale Salad
Soft kale with a slight crunch, melt in your mouth parmesan, croutons and a poached egg. Simple yet so delicious
Spicy Bean Burgers
There’s something incredibly fun about mini-burgers. Fun to look at and even better to eat.
Buddha Bowl
A Buddha Bowl is a bowl which is packed so full that it has a rounded ‘belly’ appearance on the top much like the belly of a buddha. That’s our kind of dinner! (so yeah, we ate it before taking a picture. But it looked similar to this but so much better)
Cauliflower Cheese With Crispy Onions
This begs the question why we don’t eat cauliflower cheese with more things?
Loaded Hummus With Focaccia
We were naive to think hummus was just hummus. This broke through our hummus barriers and showed us a different world.
Sweet Potato and Spinach Frittata
So pretty we didn’t know whether to eat it or get our picture taken with it. We ended up doing both.
Spicy Tofu Huevos Rancheros
Perfect for those who want a kick to start the day.
Deep Fried Olives
We’ve been merely pretend to like olives for years but these were incredible. Proof deep frying things always makes them better.
Goats Cheese, Pear and Walnut Salad
Salty, sweet and crunchy. A textural and flavour dream and looks pretty lovely too.
Bircher Museli With Raspberries, Strawberries & Raw Cacao Nibs
Tastes like summer. There’s nothing a glass of this and a big spoon can’t fix.

Loaded Nachos
Fresh tomatoes, sour cream, peppers, jalapeños, cheese and black beans collide on a bed of crispy nachos and the results are tremendous.
