Pizza by the slice. Dirty burgers. Gin by the goblet. The Merchant is everything you want it to be and more.
The Merchant is the new kid on the corner that’s turning heads. The iconic building, which used to be an old merchant’s house, has been completely transformed into something fresh, new and exciting – it’s like something you’d find in Copenhagen or Berlin. You can’t help but be impressed the first time you set foot in the venue – with its stripped back walls with neon hangings, the rainforest-like plant hangings that adorn the whole of the roof, the bar with a range of 50 craft beers, gin served by the goblet and last not but least they’ve got prosecco on tap. Let’s slow down for a second and repeat that last bit: they’ve got prosecco on tap. May as well hand your notice in at work now.
Something that has always been missing from 40 Slater Street is a great outdoor space. The guys put a right to this and bought the building adjacent, knocked part of it down and transformed it into a beer garden. We anticipate we are going to spend a third of our summer time out there – with a gin in each hand of course. The garden is also home to Felicity’s Kitchen – a revolving kitchen which will accommodate Street Food take-overs from the best traders in the North West to come in and do their thing. At the moment it’s Patty Smith’s burgers taking centre stage, serving the most mouthwatering burgers on the most most perfect buns you could taste. Behind Felicity’s Kitchen there’s Nightcrawler – a small pizza bar where pizza is served by the slice and locally sourced produce, brash colours and bold neons are the secret recipe.
Music at The Merchant is also amazing – every Friday and Saturday they have Chibuku and Circus residents and No Fakin DJs spinning records which will have you shazamming for days. For their opening weekend they had Jungle come and play a guest DJ set – and we’re sure they’ll be pulling more big names to come and do guest sets on a regular basis, so you better blow the dust off your dancing shoes.
Independent Liverpool Cardholders can get pints of North Brew Co for £3 instead of £4.50, 20% off the food at Patty Smith’s and half price pizza ALL the time at Nightcrawler.
