The best nights are unplanned, spontaneous and involve lots of cocktails.
Sixteen of Liverpool’s finest cocktail bars are coming together under one roof for an evening of cocktails and drinking experiences as Cocktails in the City, the nation’s leading cocktail event, arrives in Liverpool for the first time at The Great Baltic Warehouse on Friday 30th June. Glasses, spirits and the occasional roof will be raised as Liverpool’s thriving cocktail culture comes together.
It’s 1869. William Terrington just published a book called Cooling Cups and Dainty Drinks – the first ever book containing cocktail recipes. It involved a simply sounding but seemingly delicious gin cocktail and almost 150 years later there’s about to be a whole festival dedicated to them in the Baltic Triangle. Did we mention the fact there will also be Liverpool’s premiere outdoor gin garden at the festival? William would be proud.
Cocktails in the City was launched in 2012 and has welcomed over 35,000 guests through the doors and on June 30th, the best of Liverpool’s shakers and makers are mixing together. From your refined, old fashioned and traditional cocktails paying homage to those that paved the way to the more exuberant, flashy and on-fire modern drinks – the line-up of bars is set to include Furnival’s Well, Berry & Rye, 81 Ltd, Red Door, Ghetto Golf and more. A reminder of Liverpool’s effervescent drinking scene and how lucky we all are to have good places with even better drinks.
Cocktail lovers will be invited to discover something different and learn about the art of mixology with hands-on mixing sessions and tasting tables running 45 minute sessions throughout the night. These will be hosted by expert bartenders, showcasing signature cocktails and more. There will also be delicious street food on offer from vendors such as Slims Pork Chop Express. Alternative entertainment will also be available in the form of London pop-up sensation Pitch Black, where you are invited to try drinks in total darkness, or you can sink a few holes with Ghetto Golf.
Tabara N’Diaye of Cocktails in the City says:
“We’re celebrating our fifth birthday this year and we’re thrilled to be coming to Liverpool for the first time. Liverpool has a fantastic and diverse number of bars and we can’t wait to celebrate the city’s vibrant cocktail scene. In the spirit of friendly rivalry, guests will be invited to vote for their favourite bar, so expect to be entertained and educated along the evening by some of the best talent in town.”
Tickets are just £12 and includes a free welcome cocktail on entry. The words free and cocktail go together pretty well, don’t they? Grab them here.
